Book Description:

On the other side of heartbreak, a story of hope rises.

On an ordinary September day, twelve-year-old Jack is swept away in a freak neighborhood flood. His parents and younger sister are left to wrestle with the awful questions: How could God let this happen? And, Can we ever be happy again? They each fall into the abyss of grief in different ways. And in the days and months to come, they each find their faltering way toward peace.

In Rare Bird, Anna Whiston-Donaldson unfolds a mother’s story of loss that leads, in time, to enduring hope. “Anna’s storytelling,” says Glennon Doyle Melton, “is raw and real and intense and funny.”

With this unforgettable account of a family’s love and longing, Anna will draw you deeper into a divine goodness that keeps us—beyond all earthly circumstances—safe.

This is a book about facing impossible circumstances and wanting to turn back the clock. It is about the flicker of hope in realizing that in times of heartbreak, God is closer than your own skin. It is about discovering that you’re braver than you think.

Review

This book was an odd mix of inspiration and sadness.  As the author shares the story of the loss of her son,  I found myself grieving with her, almost heartbroken myself, then inspired by the way she handled the death and grew emotionally ans spiritually through her time of grief.  As the author lays her heart bare for all to see, we can find hope and healing in all she has experienced as we relate it to our own life. The book evokes raw emotion, both good and bad and will have you turning to God for understanding and comfort yourself.

Dying To Be Me: My Journey from Cancer, to Near Death, to True Healing

    Dying to Be Me
    by Anita Moorjani
    Hay House
    Retail Price $15.00
    Amazon Price: $12.33

    Book Description:

In this truly inspirational memoir, Anita Moorjani relates how, after fighting cancer for almost four years, her body began shutting down—overwhelmed by the malignant cells spreading throughout her system. As her organs failed, she entered into an extraordinary near-death experience where she realized her inherent worth…. and the actual cause of her disease. Upon regaining consciousness, Anita found that her condition had improved so rapidly that she was released from the hospital within weeks—without a trace of cancer in her body! Within these pages, Anita recounts stories of her childhood in Hong Kong, her challenge to establish her career and find true love, as well as how she eventually ended up in that hospital bed where she defied all medical knowledge. As part of a traditional Hindu family residing in a largely Chinese and British society, Anita had been pushed and pulled by cultural and religious customs since she was a little girl. After years of struggling to forge her own path while trying to meet everyone else’s expectations, she had the realization, as a result of her epiphany on the other side, that she had the power to heal herself . . . and that there are miracles in the Universe that she’d never even imagined. In Dying to Be Me, Anita freely shares all she has learned about illness, healing, fear, “being love,” and the true magnificence of each and every human being! This is a book that definitely makes the case that we are spiritual beings having a human experience . . . and that we are all One!

    Review

The story of this author’s life is truly inspirational. I myself have overcome cancer and going through that experience really changes you. In this book Anita not only recounts her life story, but the lasting affects that cancer had on her life…the good, the bad, and the ugly. As she shares her life’s journey, she will inspire you to look at your own life with fresh eyes and help you to find meaning and substance in your own life. This book gives the reader hope for the future as well as helping you find contentment in the life we currently lead.

      Review

Past life regression is a technique that uses hypnosis to recover what practitioners believe are memories of past lives or incarnations. It is typically undertaken either in pursuit of a spiritual experience, or in a psychotherapeutic setting. Most advocates loosely adhere to beliefs about reincarnation. If you are interested in learning about past life regression, then this book will give you a good basic foundation without being overwhelmed with too much information. The author has included many case studies of past life regressions she has performed on clients. There are exercises that you can do at the end of each chapter as well.  The book is organized well and is easy to I read with the information clearly presented. It also has an in depth question & answer section which I found useful. I found this book fascinating and a great tool to heal your body, mind, and spirit.

Don’t Die with the Music Still In You

Don’t Die with Your Music in You
By Serena Dyer & Wayne Dyer
        Hay House
        Retail Price $14.95
        Amazon Price: $11.36

        Book Description:

In 2001, Dr. Wayne Dyer wrote a book called 10 Secrets for Success and Inner Peace, based on the most important principles he wanted his children to live by. Serena Dyer, one of those children, has contemplated these ideas throughout her life. “Don’t die with your music still in you” has been the most important principle for Serena: to her, it means that you don’t allow yourself to live any life other than the one you were born to live.
In this book, Serena sets out to explain what it was like to grow up with spiritual parents. She touches upon all ten of her dad’s original secrets, imparting her own experiences with them and detailing how they have affected the way she approaches various situations in life. She shares stories, struggles, and triumphs—and Wayne, in turn, contributes his own perspective. This unique father-daughter collaboration will warm the hearts of all parents . . . and inspire anyone who is looking to find the “music” inside themselves.

        Review

Co-written by Wayne Dyer’s daughter, she is living proof that his theories work. This book is about being true to yourself and becoming all God designed you to be.  While Serena does discussed how her father’s teachings have affected her life, it is not just a simple rehashing of Wayne Dyer’s teachings, but a response to growing up with his teachings and sharing how they affected her life.  The book is inspiring and gives you hope that what you pass along to your own kids will “stick” as well.

          The Self-Actualizing Cosmos

          The Self-Actualizing Cosmos
          By Ervin Laszlo
          Inner Traditions
          Retail Price $14.95
          Amazon Price: $10.77

          Book Description:

An exploration of the current revolution in scientific thought and the newest scientific findings in support of the Akashic field

          • Explains how the new Akasha paradigm recognizes the interconnection of all things in space and time through the quantum resonance of the Akashic field

          • Reveals the cosmos to be a self-actualizing, self-organizing whole, bringing forth life and consciousness in countless universes

          • Explores the latest discoveries in the sciences of life, mind, and cosmos

Science evolves through alternating phases of “normal science” and radical shifts that create scientific revolutions. We saw this at the turn of the 20th century, when science shifted from a Newtonian worldview to Einstein’s relativity paradigm, and again with the shift to the quantum paradigm. Now, as we recognize the nonlocal interconnection of all things in space and time, we find our scientific worldview shifting once again.

With contributions by physicists Paul A. LaViolette and Peter Jakubowski, pioneering systems scientist Ervin Laszlo explores the genesis of the current revolution in scientific thought and the latest findings in support of the Akashic field. He explains how the burgeoning Akasha paradigm returns our way of thinking to an integral consciousness, a nonlinear mode of understanding that enables us to accept the reality of nonlocal interconnection throughout the world. This new inclusive way of understanding reaffirms the age-old instinctive comprehension of deep connections among people, societies, and nature, and it integrates and transcends classical religious and scientific paradigms.

Providing examples from cutting-edge science of quantum-resonance-based interactions among all living systems, Laszlo shows the cosmos of the Akasha to be a self-actualizing, self-organizing whole, where each part is in coherence with all others and all parts together create the conditions for the emergence of life and consciousness. The advent of the Akasha paradigm marks a new stage in science’s understanding of the fundamental nature of the world and offers unique guidance for contemporary efforts to create a peaceful and sustainable world.

Self-actualizing is unfolding and cultivating our human potentials, becoming more fully-functioning human beings at levels of mind, body, heart, spirit, and relationship. This book is a simple, non-technical introduction to cosmology in which the writing is highly user-friendly, and the book can be read in short passages making it easy in and easy out. Nuggets from this book can jump-start and support your self-actualizing adventure, the one you’ve been on your whole life, and that you’re now wanting to take to the next level.

            Love your Enemies

            Product Details Love your Enemies
By Sharon Salzberg and Robert Thurman
            Hay House
            Retail Price $24.95
            Amazon Price: $18.27

Book Description:  When people and circumstances upset us, how do we deal with them? Often, we feel victimized. We become hurt, angry, and defensive. We end up seeing others as enemies, and when things don’t go our way, we become enemies to ourselves.

But what if we could move past this pain, anger, and defensiveness?

Inspired by Buddhist philosophy, this book introduces us to the four kinds of enemies we encounter in life: the outer enemy, people, institutions, and situations that mean to harm us; the inner enemy, anger, hatred, fear, and other destructive emotions; the secret enemy, self-obsession that isolates us from others; and the super-secret enemy, deep-seated self-loathing that prevents us from finding inner freedom and true happiness.

In this practical guide, we learn not only how to identify our enemies, but more important, how to transform our relationship to them. Love Your Enemies teaches us how to . . .

break free from the mode of “us” versus “them” thinking

            develop compassion, patience, and love

accept what is beyond our control

embrace lovingkindness, right speech, and other core concepts

Throughout, authors Sharon Salzberg and Robert Thurman share stories and exercises for achieving finding peace within yourself and with the world. Drawing from ancient spiritual wisdom and modern psychology, Love Your Enemies presents tools that are useful for all readers.

While this book is described as being derived from a Buddhist philosophy, the concept is really one that is found throughout the Bible as well. The ideas here are  comprised of scriptural principles like forgiveness and compassion.  We don’t have to like them but we do have to love our enemies. How do you love someone you don’t even like? It’s not easy. And at first glance it may seem impossible. This book can be your guide by offering an easy to follow plan of practical ways to express love and kindness toward enemies. There is a lot to reflect on in this book so take it slow and apply what you learn.
